The holdout that really isn’t a holdout.

You’re seeing it all over the interwebs, stories of Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs being a no-show at Tampa Bay’s offseason voluntary workouts. So naturally folks try to put pieces of a puzzle together that isn’t really a puzzle.

Thoughts of which team could target Wirfs, analyzing a discord between two sides that isn’t really there, and so on. But what is missing and being overlooked in all this is that Wirfs has actually been working out at the Bucs facility this offseason — just not joining in on the minicamp workouts.

Then of course there is the obvious from Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, noting that these workouts are in fact voluntary, and the Bucs are not concerned with Wirfs’ “absence” if that’s what folks want to call it.

Case in point, head coach Todd Bowles spoke on Wirfs not being in attendance this past week.

“I’m aware that it’s voluntary,” Bolwes said. “Me and Tristan had a conversation – plenty of conversations. He’s still working out and he’s been here all offseason, so I’m comfortable with that.”

It won’t be the first time a Bucs player is not on attendance for voluntary workouts. They tend to come back and get re-signed anyways — those that the Bucs most definitely want to retain.

Wirfs is one of them. And both sides have a mutual likeness for one another.

This is a nothing burger.
