Reports indicate the veteran safety could be out for the remainder of the season.

The Bucs just got cornerback Jamel Dean back on defense after missing several weeks due to injury. Now they will lose yet another piece of their defensive backfield following their 30-7 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

Veteran safety Jordan Whitehead was injured while making a tackle on New York quarterback Tommy DeVito, and it’s an injury NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says could sideline him for the rest of the season.

“Jordan Whitehead is feared to have torn his pec, an injury that would end his season, sources say. He’s getting an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.”

On Monday, head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Whitehead underwent tests to determine the extent of the injury, adding that they would fill Whitehead’s spot with certain players in certain situations in his absence.

“Our results are not back yet,” Bowles said. “We’re still waiting to hear.

“It would definitely be situational depending on how we’re playing somebody and what we have to put in.”

Tampa Bay hasn’t released any official word just yet. But it does sound like Whitehead will be missing some time during a crucial stretch of their schedule.
