It could have been much worse.
The Tampa Bay Bucs escaped major injury news Sunday during their 20-16 win against the Lions.
Defensive tackle Vita Vea left the game early due to a leg injury, an injury where a teammate accidentally landed on his right knee during a Lions pass attempt. Vea was seen with a knee brace following the victory, and on Monday head coach Todd Bowles talked about the injury to his star player that anchors the defensive front.
“Yeah, he has an MCL sprain, grade two,” Bowles said when asked about an update on Vea. “Right now, he’s day-to-day, but not ruled out.”
Tampa Bay can breathe a sigh of relief that it is not much worse than what it could have been.
The Bucs have been hit with several injuries throughout the defense. Their young defensive tackle Calijah Kancey has not played a down this season due to a calf injury and safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. is out for several weeks with an injured foot.
Bowles added that he didn’t have much else of an update to share when it comes to the rest of the injuries throughout the team. For now, Tampa Bay can consider themselves fortunate to have dodged a bullet with Vea.
