Franchise legend Ronde Barber was breaking news on the team’s preseason broadcast.

Cut-down day across the league isn’t until Aug. 27, but some big spots for the Bucs are reportedly already solidified.

During the TV broadcast of the team’s third preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, legendary cornerback and Hall of Famer Ronde Barber seemed to report some news on the team’s 53-man roster.

He mentioned that undrafted rookie Kameron Johnson seemed like a lock to make the team, which echoes what Fox Sports’s Greg Auman has also been hearing about the formerly diminutive QB convert.

He later followed up with another receiver-related nugget, mentioning that second-year player Rakim Jarrett would not be ready for the start of the season, which seems to indicate that the team will carry him through cuts and then place him on IR.

If both prove true, it seems that the final receiver spot — if the team keeps 6 — will come down to veteran Sterling Shepard, journeyman Cody Thompson, and Ryan Miller. Ahead of any of them would seemingly be Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Trey Palmer, and Johnson.

Johnson would be a massive beat-the-odds tale, as he comes from Division II Barton in Wilson, N.C. The school’s team re-formed just in 2020 after more than a half-century of inactivity. He’s the first alumnus to sign with, and presumably, make an NFL roster.

Originally just 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds as QB out of high school, Johnson has totally transformed, filling out his expanded frame and now standing a built 5-foot-10, 170 pounds. His athleticism and intriguing skillset (he finished with 5 touches for 25 yards against Miami) has caught the attention of established cornerstones like Chris Godwin.

While the receiver room appears to establish, and rather robust with talent, there will be plenty of news to trickle out over the coming days.
