A short week creates some injury obstacles for the Bucs.

The Bucs returned to the practice field Tuesday for what was essentially a walkthrough prior to their Thursday night road game against the Buffalo Bills.

That said, injury designations cast doubt on several players. Most prominently, Vita Vea did not participate and therefore might need to sit out as he continues recovering from a litany of recent dings (pectoral, foot, and now groin). With a mini-bye after this one, that extra rest would be key for the big man, who’s having one of his best seasons but look noticeably hampered on Sunday against Atlanta.

Guard Matt Feiler’s status is also up in the air. He suffered a knee injury and has been estimated as a DNP two days in row. It might open the door for Nick Leverett to start at left guard, where he started 10 games last year and played fairly well. Safety Kaevon Merriweather hurt his ankle on Sunday and was also marked as DNP Monday and Tuesday, likely making him unavailable for the road trip.

On a positive note, Chris Godwin (neck) and Baker Mayfield (knee) both went from DNP to limited, so their statuses don’t seem in much doubt. Chase Edmonds is also set to return from his knee injury that he suffered early in the year. The run game has been a much-publicized disaster, so any reinforcements are welcome at this point.

On the Buffalo side, it looks likely that the Bills will be without tight end Dawson Knox (wrist) and linebacker Baylor Spector (hamstring). Multiple players were limited but otherwise not much stood out as concerning or encouraging.
