Baker Mayfield’s status was upgraded Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Bucs shared somewhat good news from their practice session on Thursday after many questions still remained about the players on the initial injury report from Wednesday. And some of that good news is centered around quarterback Baker Mayfield.

After Mayfield took a shot from Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu at the end of Sunday’s game, the veteran quarterback did not participate in yesterday’s practice. On Thursday, however, his status was upgraded to limited participation and as it sounds wasn’t limited in his throwing.

“He had a third down period – took all of the reps in a nice third down period and he threw some accurate balls. He looked pretty good,” offensive coordinator Dave Canales said. “Again, I don’t want to give too much about the plan and the style of what we’re going to do, specifically, but as far as throwing, he looked functional today. He ripped a couple of balls down the field and looked okay.”

The good news continued Thursday when left tackle Tristan Wirfs (shoulder) and tight end Ko Kieft (shoulder) were both limited in practice after not participating on Wednesday.

Defensively, Shaq Barrett (groin) continued to be a full participant while Carlton Davis (concussion) was upgraded to full participation. The outlook for them continues to trend in the direction of playing on Sunday.
